What can volunteering do for me?
Now that you’ve decided that you want to devote some of your time to a voluntary position, you may be wondering how you will benefit in the short/long term. Here are some examples of what volunteering can do for you:
- Get you back into a routine
- Build your confidence
- Meet new people
- Enhance existing skills- learn new skills
- Good for personal development and well being
Sometimes when we are unemployed, it can be difficult to stay motivated, especially if you are signing on (JSA). You are constantly met with people who may not know what is right for you and may lack the necessary skills to give you real guidance and support when looking for a new job. Volunteering can give you a sense of responsibility and give you a reason to stick to a schedule because other people are depending on your presence.
Also if you are working in a dead end job or just want to utilize your free time in a better way, volunteering may be right for you. It can give you an insight into a different profession and illustrate skills you didn’t even know you had!
Lastly, when you volunteer for Wayside Advocacy Service for Older People you will be a part of a dedicated team of individuals that strive to be a positive asset to the Community of Hackney!
