The Overseas Outreach as its name implies reaches out to
destitute people in Europe, Africa, India and the Caribbean
to help them to help themselves.
As a caring organisation, Wayside had been sending much
needed goods to a number of countries since about 1998 but
it was in the year 2000 that the project took on momentum.
This followed a visit by Jean Buffong to The Gambia, West
Africa.
In
1999 Jean was introduced to the citizens of the village
of Bulock. That introduction gave rise to the official formation
of the 0verseas 0utreach Project. During that visit Jean
spoke with the elders of the village to identify their pressing
needs. They decided then to improve the conditions
of the Day Care and Nursery School. The school
has approximately 415 children who were being taught in
two small classrooms.
Through
efforts of the members of 'Wayside overall, funds have been
raised to erect a much needed fencing around the school
garden. In 2000 Jean returned and witnessed the foundation
of the wall being constructed and laid the first brick.
Since then developments included the erection of a new and
spacious building to accommodate all the children of the
day Care and Nursery School. Sponsorship for teachers are
in place and the building was officially opened by Jean
Buffong in April 2003.
Many other nations have enjoyed the hospitality of the
overseas outreach project and have reported changes in circumstances.
We now support two projects in Jamaica, three in St.Vincent,
and three in Guyana. Others include Grenada, India, Poland,
Uganda, Ghana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe. Containers
of medical supplies, books, clothing, office equipment and
household articles are regularly sent to hospitals, health
centres, churches and community projects for the benefit
of the poor and needy. We also support children and young
people through sponsorship.
We appeal to you to become a partner to help further the
development of this marvellous work. We need sponsors, donations
of office and medical supplies/equipments, and storage space,
for other aspects of the overseas work. We also need volunteers.
